Recognizing the Community’s Needs
1) AFFILIATES
Next year, USC meetings will be hosted at least once at each of the affiliates so that the student government understands the campus fully. Some USC hosted events will take place at the affiliates in cooperation with the Affiliate councils. The plans for the event calendar and ‘student website’ will increase awareness of campus-wide events…
2) INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS
International Students have long been disadvantaged in accessing and being a part of the USC. We want to develop two international student councillor positions elected and focused on the international students.
We also want to develop a relationship with driving school(s) for students who wish get their drivers license.
3) FAITHS AND CULTURES ON CAMPUS
Seek to increase the dialogue between the communities and the USC, but furthermore host multi-faith / cultural events to increase the interaction and connection with other identities.
4) MENTAL HEALTH
The policy must be two fold: 1) Provide workshops and information for student who can learn how to support friends suffering from depression and other mental illnesses; 2) Try to decrease the stigma attached to mental health. We will also be looking into options regarding the STEP and LAMP Programs.
5) FOOD OPTIONS
We want to look into bringing more food choices to the spoke, most notably in the form of a healthy breakfast menu in the Spoke, more Vegetarian options, and Halal shawarma.
6) A GREENER CAMPUS
The most important aspect is to develop a long term environmental plan with the input and reference of experts in the field. Projects that we would like to consider are Sensors in UCC bathrooms for lights, continued focus on developing a composting option, and outdoor recycling options.
7) OTHER IDEAS
Improve Internet Infrastructure in the UCC and lobby for better cell phone reception and internet infrastructure around Campus.
16’ by 16’ Chess Board on Campus
Look into Electronic Bus Schedules Inside of Buildings, such as, Spoke, Weldon, Taylor, Huron Library, etc.
